On February 2, 2021, Brighton City Council approved a new pilot program to permit miniature goats on residential properties, however, according to the Residential Improvement Guidelines (RIG) and the Community’s Rules and Regulations they are not permitted.

The City’s Code, Section 3.5, states that a minimum size of enclosure per animal is 130 square feet and this program requires two female goats. Doubling the square footage for two animals equates to 260 square feet, which exceeds our RIG of one shed of 120 square feet for homes with garages and 200 square feet for homes without garages. Additionally, under Rules and Regulations, Section 2.5, states that only dogs, cats, and rabbits are permitted.
