With the rain and snow that we have received this April, weeds will be sure to follow in May. The District has applied pre-emergent on all District property to prevent weeds from growing and will continue to monitor the District property for any areas of concern where weeds pop up.
As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain the beauty and integrity of our community, we would like to provide you with some important recommendations for weed control on your properties.
- Regular Inspections: It’s crucial to conduct regular inspections of your property to identify any weed growth. This can be done weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your schedule and the season.
- Timely Removal: Once weeds are identified, it’s essential to remove them promptly. Pulling weeds by hand is an effective method for small infestations. Be sure to remove the entire plant, including the roots, to prevent regrowth.
- Mulching: Applying a layer of mulch to your garden beds can help suppress weed growth by blocking sunlight and preventing weed seeds from germinating. Organic mulches such as wood chips or gorilla hair is recommended. Dyed mulch is not permitted.
- Proper Lawn Care: Maintaining a healthy lawn is key to preventing weed growth. Regular mowing, watering, and fertilizing can help your grass outcompete weeds for resources.
- Herbicides: If manual removal and mulching are not sufficient, you may consider using herbicides as a last resort. Be sure to choose a product that is labeled for your specific type of weed and follow the application instructions carefully to minimize environmental impact.
